SalesMagic
is not a product with a list of features. It is a system built
to accomplish what sales people do in day to day activity.
SalesMagic draws on the feature list of FrontRange/Goldmine, FaxRush
and then adds custom programming, icons, dialog boxes, data entry
screens as necessary to turn a list of features into a working
system.
For Example: To a
sales rep the act of responding to a request for a brochure may
involve a host of "features" of various products.
The rep may need to fax, mail or e-mail the information. The
sales Manager would like to know the information was followed up on,
so scheduling a follow-up phone call is not a "feature",
it is a required part of what must be included. To GoldMine,
FaxRush and Microsoft Word, each step is a separate feature and may
involve different dialog boxes, menu selections, etc. Actual
steps may include, generating a cover letter, a label, printing some
of the enclosures, doing it all again if a copy needs to go to an
additional contact and then scheduling a follow-up phone call.
If the items are to be faxed an entirely different set of features
must be used and a different set yet if the items are to be
e-mailed. The rep must learn a variety of multiple step
procedures, be concerned with dde links between as many as 3
different programs, be familiar with Word, have a printer available
or a telephone line connected to his/her computer, have a trunk full
of various brochures, etc.
This is not what most business hire
sales people for but it is what most sales people ultimately are
